Much to do with government affairs is the successful management of an organization’s public policy issues. Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. OODA. Derived from a concept originally applied to the combate operations process, more recently it has been applied to commercial operations. Top CEO recruited? Check. Top CMO? On board. VP of Sales? Hired and already having meetings in China. Great, now where’s your VP of Government Affairs?

For all start-ups getting a top management team in place is KEY. To most however, an individual on board to monitor what the government is up to and the potential impact on the overall business plan isn’t even on the radar screen. Big mistake? Indeed.
